This is the BlindSight-E! The latest version is shown to the left. In the picture you can see two 7 hole grilles. The SONAR pulse is projected from these openings in the case in narrow beams. The sound used to produce reflections is produced by a single transducer buried deep in the case. The device electronics cause the transducer to fire into a very small cavity creating a compression wave. Another device inside the case causes this signal to invert it's phase and to be split into two paths. This is all accomplished in such a way as to cause the sound emanating form the case to be confined to two narrow beams. These beams are roughly aligned with the animal's normal sight. The beam's centers are directed approx. 45 degrees to the left and right of the direction the horse is pointed This unit weighs in at approx. 1 pound (460gm) and is intended for use by exclusively by equines.
What is it?
The BlindSight devices are rugged, compact 3-D active imaging SONAR transmitters uses by blind animals to image their surroundings using reflected sound like a Dolphin or Bat. In other words a BlindSight units provides an idealized signal necessary for echolocation. Many animals can echolocate, but lack the ability to make the complicated sounds used by Dolphins, Bats and other creatures. The BlindSight devices produce an idealized pulse matched to the hearing characteristics of each species. As of this writing 2 versions are available for dogs and 1 for horses. The BlindSight units have been in development for more than 2 years. A patent was filed in September of 2014 and the units are "patent pending"! SEE THE SPECIFICATIONS BELOW!
Can any horse use a BlindSight?
The main requirements are these; 1. a horse must have fairly normal hearing. 2. a horse cannot have a serious cognitive disorder. This would specifically include senile dementia. 3. a horse must be able to wear the unit in a protected location, like behind it's chin.
BlindSight-E for Horses
BlindSight-E for horses. Package includes spare hardware kit. U.S. Delivery included. The BlindSight-E is a true 3-D imaging SONAR emitter for blind horses. Compression wave technology is used to split a single, very powerful signal into two. The two narrow angle signals are emitted from the angled ports inline with each eye. The resulting echos give the horse information concerning heading, distance, azimuth, size and texture. The preferred mounting method places the unit in an area naturally protected by the horse. Please see the activation and mounting instructions below.
